Isabel is a young, single mom who has two children, a daughter who is 5 and a son who is 3 with Down Syndrome. Isabel is a real go-getter and came to us through a referral from LOMI (Lean on Me Isla Mujeres). She impressed us with her tenacity and quick responses in initial communication. Isabel lives with her mother, two brothers and extended family and commutes to classes at University del Sur in Cancun. She will also be attending classes on Saturdays. With only one year and 8 months left to finish her associates degree in Law (and a GPA of 8.8 out of 10) Isabel has found herself struggling financially due to a difficult year financially for her family and some extraordinary medical expenses for her son. She had to take a year off to save some money and is ready to return in full force. When she finishes this degree, she plans to continue her education to become a licensed attorney, so she can fulfill her dreams of making a better life for herself and for her young children, and stresses the importance of taking on pro bono cases in her community to help people when she becomes a lawyer. Isabel says, “For me it is important to demonstrate to my mom that these efforts and the efforts of my family bear fruits”.
