The first time I met Conchi, she was a shy 8 year old and her older sister, Nelsy, was a student in the Scholarship Program. "You're going to be in the program when you are old enough", I told Conchi. She smiled.

As soon as she was in high school, Conchi was brought into the program. A career in Healthcare had always interested her and she even volunteered with the Red Cross during high school. Conchi's grades were excellent and it was no surprise that she was ready to pursue a Nursing degree after high school graduation.

Conchi continued her success during her university experience. She moved to Valladolid to attend University and she matured and gained confidence. Her grades were excellent and she received commendations and a special internship opportunity in Merida for her hard work. After graduation, in the midst of the Covid pandemic, Conchi moved to the village of Tizimin for her year long internship, often working 12 hour night shifts.

Now that her internship is coming to an end, Conchi will return to her family in Isla Mujeres temporarily, and wait for her professional title to be issued. After that, she says she wants to study a specialty in surgical or intensive therapy in Merida and work at any job that will help fund that goal. When she is finishes the specialty training, Conchi wants to join the Mexican Armed Forces. She explains that the specialty training will help her get accepted into the Armed Forces for a Nursing job and also be an asset to her career in general.

I'm so incredibly proud of Conchi for her achievements and dedication, for her bravery even in tough times and for the kind, compassionate and extraordinary young woman that she has become. I believe that Conchi will succeed in any endeavor and make the world a better place. I hope she always calls me 'Second Mom'.  - Jana

"To my Padrinos (Godparents) of the Scholarship Program: Because of your support and dedication, this very important day for me has arrived. For your wise advice that you taught me on the road of life, for your efforts and sacrifices to ensure my future, for helping me finish my professional career, that represents the best of inheritances. Yesterday your root was my root and your courage gave me courage. For all of yesterday, I lovingly dedicate my entire tomorrow to you." - Conchi
