The Isla Scholarship Program changes lives

​Geovanny Avalos de la O was born and raised on Isla Mujeres. In his youth, he worked as a waiter, property manager, boat repairman, lanchero and more. His dream was always to become a psychologist and use his considerable people skills to help people in distress.
He became a medic/EMT and volunteered at the Red Cross on Isla Mujeres. Ten years ago he became involved with the Isla Diabetes Clinic, and continues to give his time and dedication to it, currently as the co-director of this very important non-profit. 
At age 40, through the help of the Isla Scholarship Program, he began his university studies, and after several years of hard work earned his degree and professional license in clinical psychology. It is now opening pathways to his dreams.  It is clear this man’s education will have positive ripple effects far beyond what we can imagine. We are so proud to have helped this pillar of the Isla Mujeres community!
